The SMC SY72205DZ02 is the 2 position double solenoid version of this Rc 1/4 DIN terminal family, so the spool stays in its last commanded position when power is removed rather than spring-returning. That detented behaviour is used on clamping, indexing and lifting axes where an unexpected power loss must not drop a load or release a workpiece.
